SCHS Alumni News & Events Father Cletus Uhen (1917-2012)
Father Uhen was an ardent supporter of St. Catherine’s throughout the decades. He was particularly passionate about the school’s athletic teams, having sat on Coach Bob Letsch’s bench for the last five boys' basketball state championships. In recent years Father was also a regular at the St. Catherine’s Alumni House (1220 Villa Street) on Monday mornings whenever Charlie’s Angels – a group of alumni volunteers started by current athletic director Chuck Wood – met for coffee. “Father Uhen had a long and wonderful history with St. Catherine’s,” said President Christopher Olley. "He was beloved inside the school community and will be missed by many." Father Uhen’s obituary which appeared in the Racine Journal Times on 11/27/12. Dennis DeMark Inducted into Alumni HOFDennis DeMark '59 was inducted posthumously into the St. Catherine's High School Alumni Hall of Fame during an all-school mass in the Foster Auditorium on November 15.
Over 30 friends and family attended liturgy in the John Foster Auditorium and then gathered in the SCHS Alumni House. Dennis, who passed awau unexpectedly last January, was a master restarauter in southeastern Wisconsin. His OhDennis! Charocal House in Racine was revered as "home of the best ribs anywhere." OhDennis's graciously provided rib samples to all SCHS students on the day Dennis was inducted. Mike Slesar '66 Wins National Award for Nursing WorkLPN Mike Slesar '66, a Public Health Nurse with Gila River Health Care in Arizona, recently won the Indian Health Services LPN/LVN/NLiNC Award for his work with the River Indian Community District 4 in Sacaton, AZ.
Recipients of the award must contribute to the improvement of the health of the American Indian/Alaska Native people while demonstrating a high degree of competence in nursing care. Congrats Mike! During his interview he talked about how SCHS prepared him for life after high school.

The better question is what don't they do? Angel Legends Inducted into Racine HOFLong considered legends in SCHS lore, Jim Chones, Jerry Mertens and Jim McIlvaine will now be forever known as legends of Racine County.
On Thursday, October 27, the three men were inducted into the Racine County Sports Hall of Fame as members of the Hall's inaugural class. The athletes were honored with a ceremony at the Racine Marriott. There is also a display honoring Chones, Mertens and McIlvaine at the Racine County Heritage Museum. The Reverend Cletus Uhen, former athletic director and teacher at SCHS in the late 1950s and early 60s, died on November 24, 2012.
